John Clark

John Clark is renowned for his versatility and musicality across a variety of music genres. With worldwide studio and touring experience, John has been performing since 1977.

Having studied classical percussion at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and the Manhattan School of Music in NYC, John began performing with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra at the age of 17. Now, his extensive career includes touring and recording with internationally acclaimed artists such as Michael Bolton, Al Jarreau, Bernadette Peters, Tim Minchin, Dame Shirley Bassey, John Farnham, Neil Sedaka, Sissel Kyjhebø, David Hirschfelder, Barry Manilow and Joan Rivers.

John’s theatre credits on London's West End and across Australia include Jesus Christ Superstar (The Arena Tour), Wicked, The Lion King (Melbourne, Sydney, Shanghai, Percussion Supervisor for South African production), Dreamlover (The Bobby Darrin Musical), Miss Saigon (London, Sydney), Mamma Mia, West Side Story to name a few. John has held teaching positions at some of Australia’s most prestigious schools as well as his ongoing private practice, which he started in 1983.

John continues to bring his performance experience, instruments and enthusiasm to Stick It Percussion.

Career Highlights

  • Commenced percussion lessons age 12.
  • Winning an audition and scholarship to the Australian Broadcasting Commission Sinfonia at age 17.
  • Performing as percussionist with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra at the Concert Hall, Sydney Opera House at age 17.
  • Living and studying in New York City at age 18.
  • Being invited to tour Europe and Australia with John Farnham and performing live to 30,000 people at Expo 88 and with a live national TV and FM broadcast.
  • Performing with Al Jarreau.
  • Performing with Bernadette Peters.
  • Being able to perform in the UK, Argentina, Scandinavia, Chile, Uruguay, South Africa, Spain, Turkey, Thailand, Singapore, and China.
  • Living in London and performing at The Royal Albert Hall and the London Palladium with both Shirley Bassey and Neil Sedaka.
  • Performing The Lion King in Shanghai, China.
  • Travelling to South Africa as Percussion Supervisor for The Lion King.
